Safety Goggles Save Armadillo

LIMA —Wilbur Garee, machinist at Sohio's refinery here, could see his family's Christmas tree — with both eyes — and he is thankful.

Mostly he is thankful for the foresight and safety training that prompted him to wear coverall goggles and his regular safety glasses when he began sharpening a cutting tool on the tool room lathe, using a tool post grinder.

The grinding wheel broke, striking Mr. Garee in the face, in the region of his left eye. The left lens of his goggles was shattered, but the goggles and safety glasses prevented damage to his eye.

Wilbur becomes the 73rd member of Sohio's Armadillo Club, and the 31st Armadillo at Lima Refinery.
